Pain can often put us into trance. It narrows the focus of attention. This is one of the reasons hypnotherapy works well for allowing you to control and manage pain.
Some of the factors which can exacerbate pain are: stress, depression, anxiety, smoking and missing basic needs.
A distinction can be made between pain which is acute and pain which is chronic. Acute pain is pain which is temporary and which the sufferer knows will end. Chronic pain is pain which has no prospect of ending.
